“Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul… but they had EVERYTHING in common.” Acts 4:32
FOR THE FAMILY…
Parents, remind your children every time you read or retell the Good News of Jesus’ birth (words chosen by angels) that it’s not just a storybook, folk tradition or a fairytale. It really happened. It’s a true story and not fiction. Jesus entered history—a real flesh and blood, crying, helpless infant. Through Jesus, God became man and lived among us (John 1:14). Jesus was to be called Immanuel—promised in Isaiah7:14 and fulfilled in Matthew1:23. The name means “God with us.” Because Jesus willingly surrendered to the will of God the Father to come to earth, reach out to mankind and then die for us all, “God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:9-11). Christmas is fully about Christ. It’s in the name – C-H-R-I-S-T-mas.
JUST FOR YOU…
Many believe that Advent is about being counter-cultural or taking a stand in opposition to what popular culture seems to suggest. While that may be true in part, Advent is more than that. It’s an expression of worship.
This advent season we invite you to worship as we have been given the opportunity to reflect deeply on what it means to “prepare” and “be made ready.” Advent reminds us to remember, prepare, and await the birth of the coming Messiah as well as for the return of the Son of Man.
Take time this advent season to slow down, turn on some music and worship. Worship through prayer, reading, studying Gods Word or singing. However you choose to worship, keep your focus on what matters most, CHRIST.
