We desire that all our Middle School and High School students become DISCIPLES of Jesus. At //AwakenStudents, we define a DISCIPLE as someone who: (1) LOVES and FOLLOWS Jesus (2) being CHANGED by Jesus and (3) COMMITTED to the mission of Jesus
While the word “disciple” (“mathetes" in Greek) is a noun, we see discipleship as a verb. Discipleship, at least to us, means a personal commitment to taking the necessary steps in growing as a disciple of Jesus.
HOW DO YOU GROW?
1. IN COMMUNITY
We desire all of our middle school and high school students to be a part of our Sunday morning gathering which takes place at 10:30am. It is here where we gather as an Awaken family to sing, pray and learn how to practically apply God’s word to our lives.
We also provide Sundays@Five. Sundays@Five is a place specifically for Middle school and High School students to gather to have fun, be taught and break off into Student Community Groups (SCG’s) for prayer, accountability and practical application of God’s word.
Discipleship also takes place in community through intentional mentoring and accountability. This is when you intentionally seek someone who is spiritual mature to pour into your life through one on one discipleship. This involves praying together, reading and studying the Bible together, memorize scripture together and keeping each other accountable in the areas where we tend to mess up.
However, our personal growth does not end here. We have to maintain a commitment to PERSONAL GROWTH. Which leads us to the second way in which we grow as a disciple.
2. ON OUR OWN
We desire our students to rise to the discipleship call and make a commitment to grow on their own. This is where the individual digs his/her heels in and makes a commitment to ongoing personal growth.
We as a Student Ministry desire to come along side every student to help them personally grow and develop the habits that will help them grow.
