WHAT ARE COMMUNITY GROUPS?
Our desire is for everyone who calls Awaken home to find lasting and purposeful community. Our community groups are a place where our Sunday gatherings are made small.
Community Groups are an essential part of the life of Awaken. These groups are intentionally designed to not only give everyone at Awaken a place to belong and be cared for, but also a place to be encouraged and strengthened in their journey with Jesus.
Our Community Groups are strategically structured in a way where you will study the bible together, serve one another and our City together, find purposeful accountability and discipleship.
If you want to get involved in the life of Awaken Church, our Community Groups are a great place to feel at home at Awaken. Find a group near where you live or work and get connected today.
WHY COMMUNITY GROUPS?
We’re told COMMUNITY is beneficial. We’re told we need it. We’re told we should pursue it.
At the core of Christianity we have several foundational truths; among those truths is the fact that you are not made to be alone. In Genesis, God made Eve because it was not good for Adam to be alone. In the New Testament, the author of Hebrews writes, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV). Christ gathered for himself twelve disciples for the purpose of discipleship and training. In fact, the very center of Christianity, Christ’s death on the cross, shows that you are in desperate need of a Savior, and that only by Christ’s sacrifice can you enter the community of believers.
Without community, we are simply left to our own accountability, our own thoughts, our own follies. When you join a healthy, Christ-centered, Gospel-loving community, however, you have the opportunity to learn from one another, to hold one another accountable, and, most importantly, to constantly preach the Gospel to one another.
Community is important. Join us and find out just how important it really is.
WHERE DO COMMUNITY GROUPS MEET?
Our Community Groups typically meet in homes. However, we offer several Community Group at our building (171 Newland Rd). Our suggestion is to find a Community Group that meets in or close to where you live. We ask this because part of our mission is for our groups to live on mission within their neighborhoods. Joining a group that meets in your neighborhood will allow you to collectively reach, serve and love the neighborhood in which God has placed you.
WHEN DO COMMUNITY GROUPS MEET?
Our Community Groups meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Our groups meet on different nights and begin at different times, so please make sure you find one that fits your weekly rhythm. Above you can see a list of our current Community Groups and find out when, where and what time each group meets.
ARE THERE AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMMUNITY GROUPS?
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in an adult Community Group. However, we also offer Community Groups within our //AwakenStudent ministry for ages 12-17yrs.
IS CHILDCARE REIMBURSeMENT AvAILABLE?
We offer our Community Groups a reimbursement for childcare for their gathering time. Most groups have a babysitter come into the home they met at to care for the groups children. Childcare reimbursement forms are available from our CG leaders or by e-mailing Brad Whitelaw at firstname.lastname@example.org
