The following blog post was written by our Executive Pastor, James Bare.
From what I understand a blog to be, it is time to be real!
Can I just tell you that parenting is tough! In my premarital counseling, I always like to share a reflection of how God uses the institution of marriage to mature you as a believer. “When you get married, you realize just how selfish you are! When you have children, God steps it up a notch and you realize you only thought you were selfish. Now you really really are! God desires to make you selfless and marriage and children are excellent refiners!”
With a beautiful, wonderful wife, three boys (10 , 8, 1) two jobs and everything in between, my life is overflowing. I need a moment every once in a while. Life doesn’t stop at opportune times for me to have a moment. Especially parenting! It is our job as parents in believers to present Christ to our children .
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
We must teach our children the ways of God. God’s word should be with every turn we make. I often reflect on God’s word to push me out of my selfishness as Jenny and I pursue their eternal destiny. Our children grow up fast! As Awaken Church comes along side our parents and partners with them to raise Godly children, lets pursue God and pursue our Children’s eternal destiny removing ourselves from the throne of our life and putting God on the throne. God alone is our source of strength when life is hard. God not only gives us the strength but gives us the words to say to our children. He is right there by our side no matter what!!
Love, Pastor James
